Proud to be 100%

Grower Owned

In honor of beer's agricultural roots and our amazing growers, we like to say that "great beer grows here." Each of our family-owned hop farms are as unique as the varieties they cultivate, and we take pride in being able to share their stories and tell the history of their farms. From their innovative farming techniques, to their newly expanded/updated, state-of-the-art production facilities, our growers consistently demonstrate an unparalleled commitment to continuous improvement and sustainability within the hop industry. They are dedicated to their craft and take pride in being an active component of the brewing industry as well. This direct connection to the farm not only benefits you as a brewer, but also allows us at YCH to proactively manage acreage and harvest quality based on your brewing needs. By getting to know our growers, we hope you'll feel better connected to our farms and the fields from which your hops come. It's no secret to us that quality begins in the field, and that it is our owners’ rich hop farming heritage that provides YCH with an invaluable foundation of knowledge for delivering the highest quality products, processes, and service.

Gasseling Ranches

Farm Overview:

[I am inspired by] the day my son and his family can have the same opportunity as I did.

History:

In 1910, William Gasseling Sr. emigrated from Holland and settled in the Yakima Valley, where he came to establish the family’s first hop farm in 1927. Over the years, operations remained in the Gasseling family, as the hop industry flourished throughout the valley. In 1947, William Jr. and Lorraine Gasseling moved their farming operations to Wapato, WA and developed the acreage that is still a part of the family hop ranch today. Together with Robert and Mary Jane Gasseling, they officially formed Gasseling Ranches, Inc. in 1972 as a third generation hop farm. As an incredible opportunity for families in the Pacific Northwest, hop farming carried on as a tradition in the family. Today, the farm is run by fourth generation grower Patrick Gasseling, with the help of Robert, Gary, Ernie and Trishia Gasseling.

Through the years, the family farm has carried on the values of honesty and respect for all family members, employees and business partners. In addition, Patrick understands the importance of offering a well-balanced selection of quality hops in order for brewers to continue making unique, premium craft beers. With this, they farm a variety of hops including Willamette, Cascade, Mosaic®, Simcoe® and Zeus. With a strong focus on sustainability and a dedication to the craft, Gasseling Ranches is certified under the Green Chief® program. As the industry evolves, they strive to invest in upgrades to infrastructure and technology whenever possible to continue providing the best quality hops. Gasseling Ranches, Inc. is a proud owner of Yakima Chief – Hopunion and looks forward to supplying brewers with premium hops for many years to come.
